Spring Cleaning Yard Work Tips: A Landlord’s Guide (Part 2)

As the owner of WADE RENT PROPERTY MANAGEMENT INC., I've seen firsthand how a well-maintained yard can significantly enhance the appeal and value of a property. Spring is the perfect time to give your yard the attention it deserves. Last week we released part one of our tips for yard work and spring cleaning, which you can reference here, and below I will be continuing with part two. Without further ado, here are some more expert tips from my years of experience to help you get your outdoor space ready for the season:

1. Maintain Walkways and Patios

Well-maintained walkways and patios can greatly enhance the usability and aesthetic of your outdoor space. Here’s what to focus on:

  • Clean Surfaces: Use a pressure washer to clean dirt and grime from patios, decks, and walkways. This can make a huge difference in appearance.

  • Repair Damages: Fix any cracks in walkways or loose boards on decks to ensure safety and prevent further damage.

  • Seal Surfaces: Applying a sealant to wood decks and stone patios can protect them from the elements and extend their lifespan.

2. Prepare Outdoor Furniture

Your outdoor living space isn’t complete without comfortable and inviting furniture. To get it ready for use:

  • Clean Thoroughly: Wash outdoor furniture with soapy water and rinse well. For tougher stains, a mild bleach solution can be used on plastic furniture.

  • Check for Repairs: Inspect your furniture for any damage and repair or replace as needed. Tighten screws, replace broken slats, or add a fresh coat of paint.

  • Add Comfort: Consider adding new cushions or pillows to make your outdoor seating area more comfortable and visually appealing.

3. Plan for Ongoing Maintenance

Finally, regular maintenance throughout the spring and summer will keep your yard looking its best. Here are some ongoing tasks to schedule:

  • Mowing and Edging: Keep your lawn neat by mowing regularly and edging along walkways and flower beds.

  • Watering: Ensure your plants and lawn receive adequate water. Early morning is the best time to water, as it reduces evaporation and helps prevent disease.

  • Weed Control: Stay on top of weeds by pulling them out as soon as they appear and using mulch to suppress new growth.

4. Don't Be Afraid to Ask for Help

Yard work can be overwhelming, especially if you have a large property or multiple properties to manage. Don’t hesitate to seek help from professional landscapers or gardeners. At WADE RENT PROPERTY MANAGEMENT INC., we often collaborate with trusted local professionals to ensure our properties are in top shape.

By following these spring cleaning yard work tips, you can create a beautiful, inviting outdoor space that enhances your property’s appeal and value. Remember, a little effort goes a long way in maintaining a vibrant and healthy yard. We have some more tips to share with you that we will release next week, so stay tuned, and happy gardening!
